Thailand's healthcare is good, in some cases excellent. Medical tourism is big business in the country and saves visitors millions of dollars each year. But prices are climbing, even to the point where in some hospitals, procedures are priced higher than in the U.S. There is Thai pricing, pricing for westerners, pricing for Japanese, and pricing for those from the Middle East.
My VIP card at one hospital is supposed to guarantee I receive Thai prices and a 5% discount on some line items. For years I received Thai pricing, grudgingly so, but no longer. Now it seems VIP pricing is no different than the prices given to any visiting tourist. Hospitals are a business, here to make a profit and along the way, save lives and make the sick well. Unfortunately, money is a driving force, even in hospitals. More than one person has complained to me about how a hospital cheated or lied to them. These people have decided to go elsewhere. In part two of the podcast, I talk about men who feel they never come first in their relationship with Thai women. Family is extremely important to Thais but which family is most important?
