Old Man Wang Went to the City
When I was young and without a care in the world, I used to spend my weekends watching movies on TV. Horror Movies, Black Belt Theater, and of course, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Remember those days? Well, maybe you do, maybe you don't. Doesn't matter.
One genre of film I used to love was the choppy-socky Kung-Fu films. "What's your style? Been practicing? Those sort of flicks. Anyhow, one particular sentence stuck with my all these years and I finally get to use it. I can't remember the name of the movie, who was in it, what the movie was about, or anything else about it. Great movie, obviously.
A young man knocks walks up to the door of a small home in the country. A cleaning woman answers the door.
"Yes, can I help you," she asks?
"Can I speak to Mr. Wang, please? " says the young man.
"Old man Wang went to the city to find a wife."
Something about that sentence, other than the name Wang, always struck me as funny. Something about this guy's message to me struck me as funny. He wants to make the move to Thailand to 'fulfill a lifelong dream of marrying an Asian woman.' Isn't that sort of like, Old man Wang is going to Thailand to search for a wife? In this day and age, knowing what people know about Thailand, I think it's a little much and sort of creepy. But come on down Old Man Wang, a wife awaits you.
