My mind told me this was going to gross me out, or so it should. Then I listened a bit more and got a chuckle, and then my mind re-minded me that I would be grossed out, and I was, thanks!
Yeah, I don't doubt that rats are everywhere. I've seen my share of them in the Philippines for sure but also I remember seeing a few in Bangkok many years ago and I think I also saw a few in Houston.
I'll tell you something though: rats definitely are smart and white rats, i.e. lab rats, make very good pets. I had two when I was in high school and they're really cool and 'laid back' about life.
The "African Rat" mentioned is actually a "Gambian Rat" and their sense of smell is so keen that they're used to sniff-out land minds and also cancer tumors (like dogs sometimes are).
The grungy rats you're talking about are usually the 'Norway Rat' species and, yeah, they are gross. But in general, they're just another rodent.... like a rabbit.
So I guess you could say that rats are The Easter Bunny's disreputable cousin :-) Maybe we'll have a holiday someday where, like kids giving little painted baby 'chicks' on Easter, people will give chartreuse or pink or green baby rats for presents.
p.s. Google 'pet rats' on YouTube.
There are NO rats in the Philippines! How dare you say this Art!
I can't stand the little (and not so little) bastards, the thought of getting the Black Plague is enough to want to shoot em.
