Yesterday, I took a trip out to Chaengwattana Road to get my re-entry permit at the Thai Immigration Department. As you may or may not know, I'm leaving for Singapore on the 19th of this month. My departure is voluntary. Having a retirement visa or what is known as a stay of extension means the holder can stay for one year at a time without leaving the country. If the visa is renewed before it's expiration, the holder may stay in Thailand as long as they wish without leaving.
Since I am taking the train, off to immigration I went. Fortunately, there were less people than usual and I was in and out in 45 minutes.
Below are two maps to the government complex that acts as home to the immigration department and also a video of my experience applying for a re-entry permit.
