Why People Move to Thailand

If I knew then what I know now, what would life be like? Would I have traveled to Thailand? Perhaps, or perhaps I would have moved to Japan or Indonesia or one of my favorite places in the world, the Netherlands. The only certainties in life are change, death, and taxes. Everything else is maybe, possibly, and perhaps.

When I moved to Thailand, the perception was the country was the ideal getaway for someone looking to live a life of leisure and start over again. Has this changed so much in the past 20 years? A little but people from all over the world are still clamoring to live in Thailand. Why? What is it that makes Thailand so
special? I've always been of the opinion foreigners love Thailand because of the intangibles; the smiles, the care-free attitude, and the difference between how they think and we think. We all want the same things but we often go about getting these things in a different manner. However, I now believe people choose to move to Thailand because it represents a lifestyle and freedom that is unavailable in their own country. Then again, there are some who feel their country sucks, the women suck, and they need to escape. So what is the real reason people move to Thailand?

It took you five wives to finally figure that out?! You're like Elizabeth Taylor!

Renting is always better in the long run over buying them.. I have no Uncle Charlies, step kids that really do not like you but like their mother are taught to get the money first.. no inlaws with greedy open paws, none of that nonsense you get with any woman in Thailand. I have learned to live alone and love it.

We met a guy in the USAF base Hickam, Oahu, Hawaii, we were waiting for a hop to Pago Pago, US Samoa, as we waited, this guy, just about ready to leave the military on a medical discharge told us about an amazing south seas-like island called Phuket. In 79, Patong beach didn't have full time electric or a paved road!

We arrived over the many hills from Phuket town to Patong beach, our first glimpse of the blue Andaman, framed by a perfect horseshoe shaped bay dotted with coconut groves to the sea!

The total of bungalows on the entire beach was 5, Patong Beach Bungalow, Scandia, 7 Seas, Valentines and SeaView at the end of the bay. Also the 2 story Patong Beach Hotel, but only "tourists" stayed there, it was a whopping $25 a day and the bungalows were...$5 down to $2 perday[short time $5, long term $2].

No meal at any of the 5 cafes was over 30baht, a large Singha was 20baht.

We stayed for a decade before the pseudo-rapid changes to modernism finally sunk in and we ran away, never to return.

But...we never forgot the kindness of the Thai people or their jealousies either. Thai food is the best on earth and the lure of Thai still haunts us to this day!

Sawadee MF...life is good! Live each day as the true gift it is...

In most cases, I agree. However, I'm married, we have two good kids together, and I also have no nonsense. I always refused to put up with it and rarely had any problems. Hook up with the right woman and she'll contribute as much as you do, sometimes more, and do so willingly.

A wise man once said, " if you let things get out of hand, things get out of hand."

Words to live by. :)

The self-apologia is rampant by the podcaster: "I come from a Jesus culture where sex is wrong. I'm in a non-Western country where sex is more accessible and has no guilt association. I'm not here for better women. I'm here for the culture/insert." I've never been to S.E. Asia, but I lived in E. Asia for several years. And you know what, even though there is no whore situation with E. Asian women, the expats do the same song and dance there also, though more subdued than this rant.
Fact: Men are treated like crap in English-speaking countries. Fact: Women are not raised to hate men abroad. Myth: I can assimilate and find gainful employment in non-Western countries if I learn the language, etc. Fact: To live abroad, a Westerner has to live in poverty as an English teacher.
Post-2008: I may/may not have economic opportunity in my English-speaking misandric country...
I would have much more respect for the podcaster if he was more open about these facts. He has a wealth of knowledge. Why can't he feel comfortable with his ego: "I got laid in USA, I got laid in Thailand. Getting married to a Thai vs. an American chick was not coincidental." I think this is a much easier point to make than hide it and explain "Why am I in Thaliand for economic reasons?"
When I lived in E. Asia, I would get-off on all the sour faced American women, gawking at how their whole life understanding of male supplicant and the awkwardness of their non-beauty exposed for all to see, counting down their days until they can go back to the magina sphere.

First, you're a fucking Momo.

I'm the podcaster and an atheist. In my own case, I couldn't give a flying fuck about religion. Religion is a personal matter and in my case, sex was never deemed wrong nor did I ever have any sense of guilt.

Fact (besides that you're a cunt) - rarely was I treated like shit by any woman because I do not allow it./

Fact: I live abroad and I don't teach English nor do I come anywhere near the poverty level.

Fact: I feel perfectly comfortable stating that I slept with hundreds of women in the west and even more here. And I don't feel any shame at all.

Now...you're a dumbfuck because you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. You're a chowderhead because you haven't even been here and yet you think you know everything.

Finally, my marriage was definitely not coincidental. I broke up with a woman before moving to Thailand and if you're single and live in a country 20 years, chances are pretty good you'll end up married to a local.

Now Momo - fuck off outta here.

Looks like I hit a nerve. I'm just saying, why the song and dance around the subject of the only real reason to be in Thailand? I'm not Christian either, but it does inform our common culture--and I think it's why every American/UK expat, regardless of the country of choice, has the same song and dance of, "I am cool, not here for the ladies, but everyone else is a chump." It's facile and unnecessary. Just embrace the positives of Thailand without the churlish apologetics of why you are there. For anyone who has lived abroad, it's transparent. Also, my contrast to E. Asia is, that even though relationships with foreigners are on a strictly non-financial basis, American women, and the linger Judeo-Christian values, shame the expat men into contriving dumb explanations of "I'm cool and everyone else in Japan is a mal-adjusted loser," even when there is no whore/visa culture in Japan.

You hit a nerve alright, the nerve of mine that hates trolls and chowderheads like you. Why is it you can't even use your real name? I guess you're a true believer, huh?

Again, you're a fucking mom because you think you know what's up and you really don't have a clue. I came here to train in Muay Thai for a year and decided to stay. If you find this hard to believe, that's on you pal. The women are only a portion of what Thailand has to offer but how the fuck would you know since you haven't been here? Besides, I'm married and don't run around and the only thing transparent is your willingness to show what a fucked up piece of shit you really are. Just because you're lacking and unable to find a way to earn a living while abroad doesn't mean everyone is like you. Well, maybe you can teach English but all but one of my friends here works jobs OTHER than teaching English. The only one who does teach works as an editor and correspondent for a US publication. But then, you're the smart one, you know everything and believe nothing. Now fuck off on outta here ya fucking peabrain.
