special? I've always been of the opinion foreigners love Thailand because of the intangibles; the smiles, the care-free attitude, and the difference between how they think and we think. We all want the same things but we often go about getting these things in a different manner. However, I now believe people choose to move to Thailand because it represents a lifestyle and freedom that is unavailable in their own country. Then again, there are some who feel their country sucks, the women suck, and they need to escape. So what is the real reason people move to Thailand?

Renting is always better in the long run over buying them.. I have no Uncle Charlies, step kids that really do not like you but like their mother are taught to get the money first.. no inlaws with greedy open paws, none of that nonsense you get with any woman in Thailand. I have learned to live alone and love it.

We met a guy in the USAF base Hickam, Oahu, Hawaii, we were waiting for a hop to Pago Pago, US Samoa, as we waited, this guy, just about ready to leave the military on a medical discharge told us about an amazing south seas-like island called Phuket. In 79, Patong beach didn't have full time electric or a paved road!

In most cases, I agree. However, I'm married, we have two good kids together, and I also have no nonsense. I always refused to put up with it and rarely had any problems. Hook up with the right woman and she'll contribute as much as you do, sometimes more, and do so willingly.

The self-apologia is rampant by the podcaster: "I come from a Jesus culture where sex is wrong. I'm in a non-Western country where sex is more accessible and has no guilt association. I'm not here for better women. I'm here for the culture/insert." I've never been to S.E. Asia, but I lived in E. Asia for several years. And you know what, even though there is no whore situation with E. Asian women, the expats do the same song and dance there also, though more subdued than this rant.

Looks like I hit a nerve. I'm just saying, why the song and dance around the subject of the only real reason to be in Thailand? I'm not Christian either, but it does inform our common culture--and I think it's why every American/UK expat, regardless of the country of choice, has the same song and dance of, "I am cool, not here for the ladies, but everyone else is a chump." It's facile and unnecessary. Just embrace the positives of Thailand without the churlish apologetics of why you are there. For anyone who has lived abroad, it's transparent. Also, my contrast to E. Asia is, that even though relationships with foreigners are on a strictly non-financial basis, American women, and the linger Judeo-Christian values, shame the expat men into contriving dumb explanations of "I'm cool and everyone else in Japan is a mal-adjusted loser," even when there is no whore/visa culture in Japan.

You hit a nerve alright, the nerve of mine that hates trolls and chowderheads like you. Why is it you can't even use your real name? I guess you're a true believer, huh?
