You raised a lot of important points here Scott. I have seen a lot of comments from people lately re the changes to financial requirement for the retirement visa. I am sure this will have one of the biggest impacts on expat retiree numbers in modern times. It seems to me that Thai immigration have not considered the impact this might have on retirees going to other countries with less requirements.
