The Next Big Thing

It seems like LiveStreaming, or In Real Time (IRL) is the next big thing. National Geographic now streams from Africa on Facebook, and YouTube has made streaming much more simple so streaming is here to stay. It's taken me a few weeks to learn the ins and outs of streaming, but aside from the instability of the internet, I have learned the basics. My YouTube streams are generally on Monday, Thursday and Saturday or Sunday at 10AM Bangkok time (GMT+7). Most of the time the streams are done from my office at home; once in a while they're done outside. So far I've done streams in The Mall Bangkapi, Chinatown, EM Quartier and Sukhumvit Road. In the future, I'l be doing live streams from elsewhere in Thailand as well as Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan.

Next year our family will be back in Florida in the US and then a month later I'll finally make the journey to six countries in Africa; tentatively, those six countries are: Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. Internet speed allowing, I will be streaming from at least one of these countries. If there are any places in Bangkok you would like to see, either live or in a video, please let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Below is a video I shot of a young singer in The Mall Bangkapi. Every time I go to The Mall there is something interesting going on. They really have upped their game. A few weeks ago there was a food festival, shortly before this there was a Japanese Fair, there have been tributes to King Bhumibol Adulydej and even a cat show. If you are in The Mall or Central Department store for any reason and have a little free time, check out their exhibition centers.

The New Sin Tax

Lately I have been swamped with things to do. As some of you may know, I've been live streaming quite a bit lately. I personally think this is the wave of the future. I like it because there is interaction between the viewers and I and as the technology gets better and better, it becomes easier to stream anywhere. On my last trip to Cambodia, where the internet was quite slow, I managed to stream from the Preah Vihear temple. The stream was passable and all in all it was a good experience. Now I have upgraded our internet speed to the fastest speed possible  in our village, 125 mbps / 30 mbps and 300 mbps 4G on my mobile phone.

On Tuesday morning, October 3, 10AM (Monday, October 2, 8PM PST), I'll be streaming from Chinatown, the Shangri-la Restaurant (well known for it's dim sum and Chinese buns) and Pahurat (Little India). If you're interested in doing a walk around in Chinatown, this should be the next best thing to being there.
