When you're in Thailand, or anywhere for that matter, it pays to mind your own business. Here in Thailand, getting involved in other peoples affairs is one of the fastest ways to catch a beating or worse. Whether you are a tourist or expat, you are and always will be an outsider and as tolerant as Thais can be, they have equally explosive tempers. Your business is your business, their business is their business, especially when it comes to sensitive subjects like politics.
On November 8, a Russian man and his daughter were standing at a small protest along Jomtien Beach. It is unclear what transpired, but apparently the Russian commented about the protest and irritated a nearby Thai. One thing lead to another and the Thai lashed out. In a perfect world one should be able to comment about politics without a violent response. But the world is nowhere near perfect.
