According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), TIME magazine has named Isan (the Northeast) and Phuket as two of "The World's Greatest Places of 2023," a list of 50 extraordinary destinations to explore.

Kingdom of Lights, Carnival Magic, Phuket, Thailand
Isan's diverse and delicious culinary offerings, as well as its national parks and Khmer temple ruins, including Michelin-recommended restaurants, were highlighted by TIME. The region is also home to Thailand's first national park, Khao Yai, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last year and is largely situated in Nakhon Ratchasima province. Visitors can observe elephants, gibbons, and Asian black bears in their natural habitats.
Phuket's Carnival Magic, a culturally-focused theme park that opened last September, was noted by TIME as a significant addition to the area's family appeal. Voluntourism initiatives, such as the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, were also highlighted, along with the island's uncrowded countryside, which is attracting more visitors to its modern luxury lodges, in addition to the famous beaches of Phuket.
