Yesterday, a tragic incident occurred at Wan Nonkead in Sisaket province, where a man lost his life due to a fatal accident involving a large Buddha statue he was transporting for a monk's funeral. The statue, weighing 200 kilograms and intended for a royal cremation ceremony honoring a highly respected local monk, caused the crushing of the victim and his colleague.
Law enforcement authorities are currently conducting an investigation at the site. The unfortunate accident resulted in the crushing of the torso of Saranyu Kanyamai, a 40-year-old individual who tragically succumbed to his injuries. Saranyu's coworker, Asisak Cahtthasai, sustained back injuries during the incident. Both individuals were promptly transported to Sisaket Hospital for medical attention, but Saranyu's condition proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The purpose of the transport was to relocate the Buddha statue from the temple's front pavilion to the interior of the sermon hall. Prior to the accident, Nopporn Prompadit, aged 50, stated that they had utilized a truck for the transportation of the Buddha statue. Unfortunately, during the unloading process, the statue slipped from the truck, falling onto Saranyu. Despite their immediate efforts to lift the statue off him, he had already become unresponsive.
This incident has resulted in a deep tragedy, and authorities will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
