Thailand is set to impose a tourist entry fee for foreign travelers, aimed at improving its tourism industry as the country returns to pre-pandemic levels. The fee will be Bt300 (US$8.73) for international tourists arriving by air, and Bt150 (US$4.37) for those arriving by land or sea, to be implemented starting June 1, 2023.
While some travelers have expressed concerns about the fee, it is intended to ensure that tourists show up to claim their booked tickets, preventing others from losing out on travel opportunities. Exceptions to the fee include Thai nationals, day and transit passengers, children under two years old, foreigners with Thai work permits, and those with diplomatic and official passports.
